A sua tese de doutoramento, dedicada à bioelectrónica de alta fidelidade aplicada à pele, foi distinguida com o Prémio de Melhor Tese de Doutoramento 2025 pelo journal Applied Sciences, da MDPI. Manuel concluiu, em 2025, o seu Ph.D. em Engenharia Electrotécnica e de Computadores, no âmbito do programa de duplo grau do #CMUPortugal, desenvolvendo o seu trabalho na Carnegie Mellon University – Electrical & Computer Engineering (ECE) e na FCTUC & ISR Coimbra, sob a orientação dos Professores Mahmoud Tavakoli e Carmel Majidi. Actualmente, continua a desenvolver investigação na área da bioelectrónica flexível (soft bioelectronics), enquanto lecciona na ETH Zürich.
